Mining
The Mining skill lets you mine faster and deeper and increases mining bonuses. Gather a wide mix of materials early: many achievements, and most crafting recipes, reward variety.
Use the minimap
The minimap shows unexplored areas in different colours. Head for the uncoloured parts of the map: that is where resources are still abundant and where you are most likely to find something new. Raising Perception unlocks more map abilities and zoom.
Bunkers
Explore the underground and you will find abandoned bunkers with loot barrels and crates. They are a good early source of items. The Luck skill improves what you find and how much you can loot.
Dungeons
Dungeons are tougher than bunkers and pay better. They contain Brains and Automata as well as traps, so bring good gear. See enemies and dangers before you go in.
Quick tips
- Mine a wide range of items early to unlock the Scavenger achievement (20 different kinds).
- Bring building materials down with you so you can bridge gaps and wall off danger.
- Reaching bedrock, finding mushrooms and discovering large numbers of unexplored areas all count towards exploration achievements.
