Getting started in Deepworld

Everything you need for your first hour in the revived Deepworld: installing, what to do first and what to avoid.

Install the game

Deepworld is free to download straight from this site. Get the starter zip from the download page, extract it, open the Deepworld folder and run DeepworldLauncher.exe. The first run downloads the full game (about 3.1 GB); after that the launcher only fetches updates. See troubleshooting if Windows shows a warning.

Your first steps

  1. Open your inventory and the map. On desktop the inventory opens with I and the minimap with M.
  2. Chase achievements. They are mini-quests that pay a lot of XP. The easiest early one is Scavenger: mine 20 different kinds of items. See achievements and XP.
  3. Dig. Mining is how you gather materials, find loot and reach the deeper, more dangerous parts of the world. See mining and exploration.
  4. Craft. Open the crafting tab in your inventory and press the items you want to build. Greyed-out items are missing a skill level or an ingredient. Drag crafted items onto your hotbar to place them. See crafting and building.

Skills to pick first

You earn skill points as you gain XP. A good opening is Mining (dig faster and deeper), Engineering (craft better items and weapons) and Perception (unlocks more map abilities and zoom). The full list is in the skills guide.

Staying safe

  • Dungeons hold enemies such as Brains and Automata plus traps like turrets and spikes. Come back once your skills are up.
  • Other players can grief unprotected builds. Use protectors or a private world to keep your work safe.
  • If you get stuck, the chat commands /sp and /die return you to a world teleporter. See chat commands.
